Arran and Lagg are made at two distilleries on the Isle of Arran. At Lochranza Distillery in the north, we make Arran single malt, known for its fresh, fruity character. At Lagg Distillery in the south, we produce heavily peated whisky with a bold, smoky flavour. Both reflect the character of the island, expressed through two distinct styles.

Peated whisky gets its distinctive smoky flavour from peat, which is burned during the malting process to dry the barley. The smoke leaves phenolic compounds in the malt, giving the finished whisky its characteristic smoky, earthy notes. Unpeated whisky is made using malted barley dried without peat smoke, allowing other flavours to come through. Depending on the whisky, these might include fresh fruit, citrus, vanilla, honey or spice.
