Latest Lagg Distillery Update
A lot has happened in the last few months at our Lagg Distillery!
Since May, the steelwork has been completed, the floors have been partially laid and the roof is almost complete.
The completion of the steelwork has allowed the Lagg Distillery and Visitor Centre to take on its distinctive shape, reflecting the outline of the Isle of Arran itself.
The Lagg Distillery has been designed to blend as comfortably into the surrounding environment as possible and this is probably best reflected by the green roof which is almost complete. Following the application of the Bauder Sedum Blanket, our green roof will be very much alive and is expected to change colour with the changing seasons.
The floors have also started to go in, allowing some of the internal structural work to start. It is amazing to see the progress that has been made on-site since the beginning of this year and we are very proud of the way it is all coming together. Click here
Going forward, the new Lagg copper pot stills are due to arrive and be installed later on this year, closely followed by traditional wooden washbacks. Once installed, production of the new Lagg spirit is expected to commence by the end of February 2019, under the watchful eye of Master Distiller James MacTaggart, our Distillery Manager Graham Omand and the rest of the Lagg Distillery team. This will ensure that production is well underway before the grand opening of the Visitor Centre in Spring 2019.
A few months ago, we announced Graham Omand as our new Lagg Distillery manager. As we will also have a Visitor Centre at Lagg, we would like to introduce you all to Faye Waterlow, our Lagg Visitor Centre manager. Some of you may recognise Faye as she has worked for Isle of Arran Distillers for over twenty-two years. From starting as a waitress on the opening day of the Isle of Arran Distillery in Lochranza, she worked her way to tour guide and eventually Visitor Centre manager, a post she held for over six years before departing on maternity leave late last year. As the longest serving member of staff at the distillery in Lochranza, and longest serving visitor centre manager, we are delighted that she is bringing all of her years of experience down to our new Lagg Visitor Centre!
Gerard Tattersfield, who has been acting Visitor Centre Manager during Faye's maternity leave, will continue in the permanent position as Visitor Centre Manager at Lochranza.
The Lagg Cask Society is also growing and is now made up of around 200 members, each of whom own one of 700 of the first fill casks which have been reserved for public purchase. All Society Members will have their names displayed within the distillery, making them literally 'a concrete part' of our new Lagg Distillery & Visitor Centre from the very beginning.
